Have you seen the latest issue of Wisconsin Bride? If so, you may or may not have read the article on page 52, entitled Nuptials in Nature, which quotes yours truly.

I was really excited in the fall when I was contacted by Wisconsin Bride to discuss outdoor weddings and share my advice for planning one. I was also excited to hear that images from a client’s wedding would also be featured in the article. Mimi and Jim held their ceremony and luncheon at Lake Park Bistro and then ventured to Mimi’s parents home in Oconomowoc for an evening reception on the lake. The reception was beautiful and guests really enjoyed themselves, but the planning didn’t necessarily come that easily.

The biggest misconception brides have about outdoor wedding is that they follow the same traditional planning guidelines as all other weddings, and that’s definitely not true. As the article mentions, there are so many other things to think of when planning an outdoor wedding and couples who are considering one need to realize they are responsible for all aspects. Whether this means hiring someone to take care of it or doing it yourself. You can’t just throw up a tent.

Thanks to Wisconsin Bride for the mention!

P.S. You can take a peek, at the top of page 8, at the invitation suite that Tara of Cracked Designs created for Stylist and I. Our stationery was awesome and one of my favorite elements from our wedding.

Our Wedding Day :: Bloopers.

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Today, I continue to embrace Anniversary Season by discussing some bloopers…

It doesn’t matter if you’ve attended a million weddings in your day or you work in the wedding industry, wedding day “bloopers” are inevitable. As you’ve heard a million times before, no wedding is perfect, and today I stand behind that statement.  There were definitely no disasters on our wedding day but a few moments I either laugh really hard at or am still surprised they even happened.

Our funniest blooper moment was during our grand entrance. I was adamant about having a wrist loop for my dress. I loved my dress and the detail on the train so I didn’t want to have to bustle it immediately after the ceremony. Anyway, I was so pleased with my loop until it became my worst enemy during our grand entrance. Style was holding the same hand that the loop was attached to and as our names were announced he raised our hands into the air, which caused my dress to trip me. Luckily it wasn’t a full blown fall-on-my-face trip, but I am sure guests noticed. It makes me laugh thinking about it now.

My next blooper moment is forgetting to do anything with my finger nails. It may sound petty to some but I was standing in the kitchen of Stylist’s farm house having my nails painted minutes before our first look. See for yourself. And, yes, Monica’s expression proves she too can’t believe I forgot a manicure!

You all know how much I hate ugly hangers, right? Well, I was one of those brides who completely overlooked the hardware that her beautiful dress would be displayed on. Luckily, our photographer is a rockstar and had one I could borrow.

Do you have a wedding day blooper of your own you’d like to share? Leave a comment!

Wedding Day Snapshots :: Jeni & Jay!

Monday, October 4th, 2010

I don’t typically share City Bride real weddings with readers (I leave that to the photographers) but this wedding was just too much fun.

Jeni and Jay worked very hard to ensure that their wedding day was as much of an experience for their guests as it was a celebration. Their wedding was hosted at The Milwaukee Public Museum, the perfect venue for creating a guest experience. Not only could guests explore many of the museum exhibits they could also enjoy the beauty of the indoor butterfly garden. The day was planned beautifully and the following images were captured from my iphone while I was managing the day.

*********

As I have mentioned many times before, the cake (or dessert) is one of my favorite parts of a wedding day. Thanks to The Cake Lady this wedding was no different.

Here is the a little peek at the beautiful butterfly garden the museum is home to.

Here, a few wedding crashers.

Lastly, proof that my team and I can work in almost any environment.

Jeni and Jay- it was a pleasure to work with you and I wish you many happy years together!!

FINALLY!

Well, as you can see we have a brand new look for The City Bride Blog! The “upgrade” of the blog took much longer than I had initially anticipated but I am so happy that it is finally complete and that I can once again find my blogging voice.

This summer and wedding season has been a wonderful time for me. I am continuing to challenge myself with The Wedding Boutique and am so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with some amazing couples in the past few months. However, something was really missing and I haven’t been able to pin point it until right now. It is this blog!

I am so glad to be back!

City Bride Photoshoot | The Results.

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010
So, to follow up with my behind the scenes post from last week, here are the professional photos, courtesy of Molly of m three studio photography.

And, these flowers, aren’t they so gorgeous?

Not only were the flowers absolutely gorgeous but so were the models. Seriously, they were troopers. It was a typical (really cold!) March day in Wisconsin and I give them so much credit for looking fabulous while freezing.

And, here is my favorite shot of the entire shoot. Yes, it is clearly a detail shot but I love the assorted glassware, lilac plates, and my inspiration for the whole design, the linen.

Thanks again to all of the vendors that participated:
florals: freshdesign
hair and makeup: a fabulous Brew City Bride, Emily
dress and accessories: Miss Ruby Boutique
linen: BBJ Linen
And of course, thank you to my assistant for the day, Melissa!

City Bride Photoshoot | Behind The Scenes.

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

If you follow me on Twitter you may have seen me recently mention a photoshoot that I was organizing. The purpose of the shoot was to further define my brand and allow brides to learn more about my personal style. The shoot was a couple weeks ago but before I share the professional shots, I’d like to give you a behind the scenes look.

The shoot took place in an alley (behind an awesome stationery store) in the Third Ward. Really, it was the perfect location. While designing the tablescape I really kept in mind that I wanted to inspire brides with this look and remind them that their wedding can be anything they want it to be to. I also tried really hard to use elements that were realistic for most brides to obtain. Sure, the shoots that use huge hanging chandeliers are beautiful but not always obtainable.

The patterned linen was rented from BBJ Linen, the glassware and candle holders were purchased from various Good Will stores in the Milwaukee area, the florals were done by freshdesign and the dinnerware was purchased from Ikea.

Want to see a photo?

This photo was taken with my trusty iphone but the professional photos will be coming your way shortly…and please, don’t pay to much attention to the random stuff in the background!

A recap of the shoot wouldn’t be complete without sharing that I also had a run in with the law that day. Since we were going to be blocking one side of the alley I contacted the surrounding businesses and made sure it would be okay to setup there for about 2 hours, everyone was obviously fine with it since I wasn’t going to be blocking both entrances. However, I didn’t realize that above all of these businesses were some condos. So, right as we have are putting the final touches on the table (read: it’s now not moveable) a lovely gentlemen pulls into the alley right by our table and becomes very angry. Like I said we weren’t blocking both entrances, he just felt inconvenienced that he’d have to drive around the block. Anyway, I don’t know for sure but I believe this lovely gentlemen called the Police. The Officer that arrived at the scene was very friendly and only asked that we be cleaned up in 20 minutes. I was so thankful that he let us finish our shots… and he even set up orange cones, making us look very official.

So, other than my little run in with the law, it was a great success. Thank you to all of the fabulous vendors that participated!!
