Casual Friday.

Friday, March 11th, 2011

It’s been a little while since a Casual Friday update, but truthfully, I haven’t had much to share. My life is rather uneventful these days.

For all of the Wisconsinites reading, seriously, aren’t you ready for spring? I’ve been trying really hard not to complain about the weather, but I’m allowing myself this one little rant. I’ve grown up in Wisconsin my entire life but for some reason this winter has been a real downer and I feel like it’s never going to end. I’m ready for green grass and wedding season.

I have to give a shout out to the Ale House. Stylist and I went there last  night, and while I have been there before, I was really impressed this time. Their staff is friendly, the food is good and of course, their beer is pretty tasty. Has anyone been there during the summer months? I hear their patio is awesome.

I’m a huge NBA fan. There are a lot of people who really dislike the NBA and prefer college basketball but I’m definitely not one of them. If the Bucks aren’t playing I am a Heat fan all the way and would jump in front of a bus for Lebron James. Anyway, I’m ecstatic that they beat the Lakers last night!

In other exciting news, Stylist and I booked our “spring break” trip to Destin, Florida this week. It will be our first real relaxing vacation as husband and wife and it can’t come soon enough.

Wishing for spring!

I love a bride who…

creates a budget and sticks to it.

only invites guests to her wedding because she truly wants their company, not because she feels obligated to for various reasons.

owns every decision she makes, even if that means her wedding will look dated in 20 years.

handles stress and tough situations gracefully.

remembers the real reason she is planning a wedding, marriage.

enjoys cake as much as I do.

values the advice of a professional.

expresses gratitude to her groom, bridal party, friends, and family.

is whole-heartedly present on her wedding day.

becomes a friend.

Why Are Wedding Dresses So Expensive?

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

I would bet that this question crosses every bride’s mind at least once during her planning process. From the outside it is sometimes hard to understand why a simple wedding dress may cost more than an intricately designed one. Below are a few things to consider when you are attempting to evaluate the cost of a gown.

Designer: Just as every piece of clothing we buy, the designer really affects the cost. If you’re interested in a Monique, you’re paying for the name just as much as the quality and design.

Fabric: A gown made of synthetic fabrics will certainly cost less than a gown made of real silk. Like I mentioned above, a simple sheath dress may cost more than a detailed gown due to the fabric used to make the dress.

Details: A gown that has intricate hand-cut and hand-sewn details will be more expensive than a gown that has been sewed on a machine.

If your budget doesn’t support a dress made from the highest quality fabric or the most intricate design, try and consider where you can do without. From experience, most brides decide to lessen the quality of the fabric before choosing a different style or design.

Any other tips for buying your wedding gown?

White by Vera Wang.

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

You may or may not have heard that the amazingly talented Vera Wang has launched her White collection for David’s Bridal. I’ll be honest, when I first heard she was teaming with David’s Bridal I was pretty shocked. I personally thought (or perhaps think) it’s cheapening her brand but as always the design of the gowns certainly deliver.

The collection is really great for brides who are looking for a stylish gown but don’t necessarily have the budget to support other Vera Wang designs. The price for this collection ranges from $600 to $1,400. The collection also includes accessories and will soon include bridesmaid dresses and shoes.

According to a Q&A with Vera, the gowns include the same aesthetic as her other designs, including the use of lace, taffetta, tulle, organza, chiffon and hand-cut details.

Now I’m interested in your opinion: Would you buy a Vera Wang gown from David’s Bridal? Would you sacrifice quality customer service for a more stylish design?
