A Colored Wedding Dress? Why not!

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Recently a bride expressed some concern about the appropriateness of wearing a colored wedding dress rather than a white or ivory gown on her wedding day.

It took me a moment to respond to her (I had to catch my breath after jumping for joy at the thought!) but once I did the answer was simple. Of course you do not need to wear a white or ivory dress on your wedding day. Your wedding should be a reflection of your personalities and really, you can wear anything that you’d like.

While I love the thought of thinking outside of the box and wearing a bright color or pattern, I caution you to ensure the color is complimentary to you and that you really feel comfortable rocking a “non-traditional” look.

Also, my best advice for searching for the perfect colored dress is to head straight to a bridesmaid boutique. Most designers offer dresses in a variety of colors and it will certainly help you narrow down your search.

P.S. If you’re concerned that wearing a colored wedding dress might be too trendy, read this!

Casual Friday.

Happy Valentine’s week! Yep, every holiday for me is at least a week long celebration! Stylist and I kept it simple this year and spent some quality quiet time together and didn’t even exchange gifts. It was so much less stressful than previous years and allowed us to really enjoy each other’s company. Best V-Day decision ever.

Congrats to all those that got engaged this week! If you need anything at all, send me an email, it would be my pleasure to offer up any advice or vendor recommendations.

A highlight of this week for me was the debut of Anthropologie’s bridal line, BHLDN. The dresses in the collection are ah-mazing (as I knew they would be) and I am really in love with the name, too. I am totally obsessed with sequins and sparkle right now, so my favorite dress is the Burnished Organza Gown.

I’ve been debating for months about cutting myself some real bangs. I’ve always had side swept, very unnoticeable bangs and recently have been envious of anyone with legitimate straight across bangs. So, I CUT THEM! I am still getting used to them because frankly, I don’t recognize myself in the mirror, but I’m excited to rock a new look for awhile. I’ll include a picture in a future Casual Friday.

This week I committed to running the Summerfest Rock n Sole Half Marathon. I am really excited and pretty nervous already, too. My running “career” started last fall, just as sort of a test to see how far I could push myself and now I really love it. Once the snow melts and it gets a little warmer I’ll be back to running outside and can keep you posted on my progress. Anyone else running the Summerfest 10K or Half? Any tips?

Tootles!

Well, I wouldn’t be a true Wisconsinite if I didn’t mention the Super Bowl. Yep, the Packers are playing in it, that’s all.

I may have mentioned in previous posts that one of my big 2011 goals is to de-clutter my life. This week I went out through all my clothes and got rid of everything that didn’t excite me (thanks to the recommendation from a friend!) and even that little step feels so awesome! Anyway, this week I found this awesome article with tips to simplify your life. Very easy and doable stuff. I’ll let you know when I’ve checked a few off the list.

Milwaukee was hit with quite the blizzard this week. And, when I say blizzard I am not kidding. I don’t think that I’ve ever seen that much snow fall during my entire life. Schools (of course), the mall, and even Starbucks was closed. I, too, decided to take a snow day, even though I don’t even need to go outside to get to my office. It was fun.

I am a really big fan (read: obsessed) with the Biggest Loser. It’s one of those shows that Stylist and I have to DVR and watch together, we don’t ever miss it. So, this week my obsession went a little farther and I started the 30-Day Shred with Jillian Michaels herself.  I consider myself to be in pretty good shape already and really started doing it of curiosity. Well, that in-shape thing, Jill thinks differently. HOLY COW I can hardly walk, after 4 days. If you’re looking for a new routine try it!

I’ve preached time and time again how important a budget is for your wedding. No matter what your budget is, it is still possible to have what you want the most, as long as you prioritize. This post, courtesy of Aletha of Pearls Events, provides a budget breakdown for a wedding with a budget of $20,000 where the brides spent $6,200 on her dress, because that was her number one priority. I love this bride, and I don’t even know her.
